Can anyone compete with WeTransfer? This Spanish company is already giving it a run for its money
“We have managed to develop security technology that allows us to compete with—and in many ways surpass—the industry giants,” Miguel Planas, the main driving force behind Tranxfer, tells Innovaspain
In the world of file transfer, two names have stood out for years: WeTransfer and Citrix. However, there are also other companies that have tried to break the monopoly of these two giants. Examples include Transfer (a Dropbox subsidiary), Ydray, and Dropsend. There are at least a dozen more options, but the big question is: can they compete with the big companies? And if so, how? The key lies in security.
This is precisely the ace up the sleeve of the Spanish platform Tranxfer. Launched in 2013 under the umbrella of the Iris Venture Builder group, it sees this as its big chance to establish itself in a challenging sector. “We’ve managed to achieve maximum security in global file sharing while keeping it incredibly user-friendly. And most importantly: without the recipient having to download anything,” says Miguel Planas, founder and president of Iris Venture Builder and the main driving force behind Tranxfer.
The 2020–21 period will be crucial for accelerating its international expansion in Europe. The company has received a €1.5 million investment from Iris Venture Builder (€1M) and a loan from Banco de Sabadell. In the initial phase, resources will focus on the United Kingdom, with the opening of an office in London, and Central Europe, primarily Germany and Switzerland. These markets are significant and strategic for the technology firm due to the high security awareness among their companies. Additionally, part of the capital has been allocated to equipping the platform with the latest advancements in data encryption and expanding the sales team.
COVID-19 has accelerated remote work and the need to protect against the rise in cyberattacks on email. “What sets us apart from established platforms like WeTransfer is the power and sophistication of the technology we have developed,” says Planas. Furthermore, he asserts that his company has “the world’s most secure technology in the sector.”
In his own words, “At Tranxfer, we aim to become the global leader by 2022.” It’s a complex challenge, but one that Planas and the other 15 members of the Barcelona-based company tackle with ease. “We’re the David looking to take down the Goliaths,” he says.
“We are an application designed and built from the ground up for businesses, and therefore feature an architecture that adapts to the various technologies used by large organizations, with all the features required by a B2B product. Tranxfer fully adapts to the needs of businesses, regardless of their size or type,” he adds.
